The small Cumbrian market town of Brampton lies 14 kilometres east of Carlisle and once held races in its own right towards the end of the 19th century. Today it lies in beautiful countryside with camping facilities at Irthing Vale, but back in the late 1800s meetings were held in the area for 3 consecutive years, beginning in May 1877 and culminating in a final meeting on Friday 2nd May 1879.
